The 5 NFL Personalities with the Highest Net Worth

Tom Brady – and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers – might be the betting favorites for Super Bowl lines, but would you believe he doesn’t have the highest net worth among all current and former National Football League (NFL) players, coaches, executives, and personalities?

If you’re going to bet on Super Bowl odds, chances are you’re considering whatever team Brady is on. He’s a record seven-time Super Bowl champion and leads almost all statistical categories for quarterbacks. He’s made about $300 million in salary in his playing career but is just outside the top five in terms of overall net worth, according to Forbes.

Here are the top five in that regard.

5. Steve Young ($200 million)

A 15-year Hall of Fame quarterback, Steve Young spent 13 of those seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. In addition to the millions of dollars he earned playing football, he has had a limited acting career and is very active in business pursuits.

Young, former Bain Capital executive Robert Gay, and billionaire industrialist Jon M. Huntsman co-founded Huntsman Gay Global Capital in 2007. Young is now managing director of the private equity firm. He is also chairman of the board for Integrity Marketing Group.

4. Peyton Manning ($200 million)

Peyton Manning could never work a day for the rest of his life and still be taken care of, but the former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback has continued to add to his net worth in retirement. You’ve probably noticed him in one of the 500 commercials in which he appears.

The two-time Super Bowl champion and five-time NFL MVP has a net worth of $200 million, although some estimates have it as high as $300 million. He makes about $10 million per year from endorsements.

3. John Madden ($200 million)

John Madden, a legendary coach, commentator, and namesake of the EA Sports’ football franchise passed away on December 28, 2021. However, the NFL legend had one of the largest net worth at the time of his death and has a substantially large estate.

Madden, who was just 32 years old when he started coaching the Oakland Raiders, won seven titles and one Super Bowl odds (1997) with the team. Obviously, salaries were much lower during Madden’s coaching career, and he wasn’t making the hundreds of millions of dollars as a commentator that Tony Romo commands.

However, Madden made most of his money through royalties from EA Sports’ Madden NFL franchise. He signed a $150 million contract with EA Sports in 2005 to allow his name and likeness to be used for an indefinite period of time, meaning the series will continue to be known as Madden even after his death.

2. Al Davis ($500 million)

The principal owner and general manager of the Oakland Raiders from 1972 to 2011, Al Davis began his football career as a line coach at Adelphi College in 1950 and later became the Raiders’ head coach and GM in the 1960s.

Although the Raiders, now in Las Vegas, aren’t on the same level nationally as the Dallas Cowboys and other teams, they used to have the same name recognition as sports franchises like the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis died in 2011, and his son Mark is now the Raiders controlling owner and managing general partner.

1. Roger Staubach ($600 million)

One of the greatest quarterbacks in the league early in the Super Bowl era, Roger Staubach, has a surprising $600 million net worth. Like Madden and Young, the 1969 Heisman Trophy winner made most of his money in retirement. In fact, he only made $160,000 per year at the height of his playing career.

Staubach worked as a real estate agent during his playing career and, in 1977, launched The Staubach Company. When he sold the real estate enterprise for $613 million in 2008, it had more than 1,600 employees across 70-plus North American offices.
